Congratulations to Ballard’s Track & Field State Champions
This is the best finish in school history for the girls, the previous best was 6th.
- Cassidy Armstrong, who finished first in the 3200m (10:13.69)
- Ciana Johnson, who finished first in the 800m (2:08.71). Johnson came within a tenth of a second shy of tying the state meet record in the 800m (which she tied at last year’s State Meet), and only a half-hour after participating in the 4x200m relay. She also took 3rd in the 400m (55.76a).
The girl’s 4x200m Relay (Vivian Goldberg, Charlotte Roble, Chloe Steinburg, and Ciana Johnson) finished 4th in their preliminary race with a time of 1:42.80.
The girls 4x400m Relay Team (Vivian Goldberg, Chloe Steinburg, Edie Welch, Ciana Johnson) finished 8th in their preliminaries, only to be disqualified due to a lane violation.
The 4x100m Relay Team (Eva Mazzola, Chloe Steinburg, Charlotte Roble, Isabella Garibaldi) scored a personal best 51.08 in their preliminary race.
Dempsey Whetsel tied for 4th in Boys Pole Vault with a 14-06.00 personal best.
Vivian Goldberg finished 14th (47.15) in her 300m hurdle preliminary heat and 13th (15.84) in her 100m hurdle preliminary heat.
The Girls Team had their best finish in school history, finishing 5th overall at the State Meet on May 28-30 at Mount Tahoma High School. Their previous best finish was 6th place. Meet Results

- Lacrosse: In team sports, we also want to celebrate the Ballard Boys’ Lacrosse Team who finished 2nd in State in their division! It was another phenomenal spring season for BHS Athletics. ~ Principal Abby Hunt.
- Baseball Update: Baseball wrapped up with the Metro Tournament after losses to Lakeside (4-0) May 6 and Blanchet (2-0) May 11.
- Softball Update: Ballard Softball lost to Ingraham yesterday afternoon 7-5, ending their District Tournament bid.
- Soccer Update: Boys Soccer fell 3–2 to Lakeside at home on May 6, ending their Metro Tournament run.
- Golf: Ballard Golfer Lucas Williams tied for 3rd in the 3A State Golf Tourney May 19 and 20. He put up a score of 138 (67-71) over the course of the two-day tourney at Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane. Six birdies led him to four under after the first round; day two was a roller coaster with three chip-ins, the most exciting of which was made on hole 12 for an eagle. Lucas represented the true Beaver proud spirit while competing this week at the state tourney. Congratulations Lucas!
