What Students Hear on Weekly Announcements

  • Talisman News! Senior Co-Editor-in-Chief Marley Helfer received an Honorable Mention in the 2024 NSPA Story of the Year (slide #104) for her Opinion article, “They is not working the way it should.” She is a 2024 NSPA Leadership in Student Journalism Award recipient. In addition, four of her articles have been published nationally on the School Newspapers Online (Best of SNO) national website.
  • Last Month in January 2025 Ballard fielded 4 teams to compete in the SkillsUSA Digital Cinema South Puget Sound competition. The teams had 1 week to write, shoot and edit an original 5 minute film. To ensure that the films weren’t made in advance, the theme “Lost & Found” and a required prop (a Journal), weren’t announced until the first day of the competition. Lake Neil and Luella Nichols produced the 1st Place film “Changing Chords” placed First; and Gabi Szainfeld and Alex Butler’s produced the second place finisher,  “Waves” All four Ballard teams finished their films before the deadline, and the teams taking first and second are invited to attend the SkillsUSA conference in March. 
  • We are so proud of ALL of the students who performed at the Elliott Bay Solo and Ensemble Festival at Roosevelt High School. The winning soloists and ensembles will represent our region at the State Solo and Ensemble Competition held at Central Washington University in April. These winners are: Vocal Jazz, Tenor Bass Ensemble, SKID Sax Quartet, Fortissimundo, Aaron H., Ezra H., Audrey N., Miriam M., and Audrey R.
    • The winners will be representing our region at the State Solo and Ensemble Competition held at Central Washington University in Ellensburg on April 25 (Ensembles) and April 26 (Solos)
  • Sophomores and Juniors: The Skills Center is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year. Apply for programs such as Medical Assisting, Automotive Technology, Construction Trades, Firefighting, Video Game Design, Nursing Assisting, Media Arts and many more! Check out their website today. Athletics & Club Sports

  • Ballard Gymnastics STATE CHAMPS!
  • Boys Wrestling. Your Brawlin Beavers took 3rd place as a team. We had 13 grapplers going to the Tacoma Dome for the state tournament, we had 7 in the finals and 4 champions. All those things are more than any other team in Metro 3A! Congratulations to Luka S. and Jona S. finalist at 138, champion at 144 Tommy M. champion at 150 Miles Price and Champion at 157 Hayden W.!
  • Congratulations to our Cheer team! Who will compete at Nationals. Last year, the team was able to bring 2 national titles back to Ballard and they’re hoping to do it again. Good luck cheer!! 
  • Try out for Ballard Girls Lacrosse! This NO-CUT sport fosters a fun environment where there is no experience necessary to be on the team. Registration is open now.
  • ABC January Newsletter!

Class of 2025

  • The Ballard High School Foundation Scholarships are now available online. Links to the Golden Beaver, Hughbanks, and Tim Nygard scholarships are available on the BHS website on the Counseling page, or you can pick up a paper copy in the Counseling Center.  The deadline to apply is Monday, April 21.  See your counselor with any questions.

Beaver Gear and Spirit Wear Breakdown

  • Athletic Booster Club (ABC) has Beaver Gear and spirit wear (shorts, baseball tee, bleacher seats, plaid flannels, socks, scarf and hats) on the ABC website with Duffle Bags offered at different times of the school year. Refer to the Spirit Wear updates.
  • The DAM” BHS Student Store run by Advanced Marketing Students in the Activity Center (AC) has great spirit items (t-shirts, hoodies, sunglasses, etc.).
  • Performing Arts (BPA) spirit merchandise can be found on the BPA Website and offered at different times of the school year.
  • Athletics! Check with coaches about specific Athletics/Sports Merchandise
