- Winter Spirit Week! Check the Ballard ASB Instagram or the poster in the commons for dress up days! Complete details on the school website too.
- Throughout the week’s events, ASB will collect donations for both the Ballard Food Bank and Treehouse Kids. Boxes will be posted by the doors at these events, and we can take items such as warm clothing, non-perishable foods, and toys.
- Assembly on Friday!
- Wed., Dec. 18 is the Winter Movie Night! Show up at 7pm in the library for a showing of Home Alone. We will have snacks and treats along with coloring pages. Bring your comfiest blankets to sit on!
- Come on down to the DAM Good Student Store for deals on merch for all your holiday needs. We have PJ bottoms, sweatshirts, hoodies, T-shirts, hats, stickers, sunglasses, etc. Open at lunch in the AC. Grab a snack while you are there!
- The BHS greenhouse students have made awesome lip balm and hand cream that will be for sale every day at lunch next week. Drop by NW203 and get some early holiday treats.
- Current 9, 10, and 11 graders: Beat the rush! We will be selecting courses for next year in January. If you’d like to get a jump start on how you’ll meet graduation requirements and set yourself up for your post-high school plans, please stop by the counseling center during lunch. The counselors have drop-in times every day and can work with you, so when it’s time to select courses in January, you’ll have a plan.
- Students! If you signed up for the Nick of Time heart screening event on January 8, please turn in your permission slip to the main office as soon as possible, and make note of your appointment time on January 8! Permission and history form, can be found both on the BHS website and on the Nick of Time website, or in the main office.
- Are you interested in performing in the Pit Orchestra for this year’s spring musical? Auditions are being held for guitar, bass, violin, cello, and drums/percussion. Auditions will be held Dec. 19 after school in room S202. Sign up outside room S202. See Mr. Valdez for audition materials and information.
- Main Office Holiday Limited Hours 9 – 3. Closed on: 12/24, 12/25, 12/31, 1/1. Please call if you would like to confirm at 206-252-1000.
Parents/Guardians
- Help the PTSA Spread Holiday Cheer to Ballard Educators: Please add the Ballard HS Educators to your holiday card mailing list or drop off a card in the office. Don’t worry about fancy, even a note on a sticky note or napkin will help spread the holiday cheer! The BHS Educator Team will open these cards together at the Staff Holiday Party on the 18… food donated by BHS PTSA thanks to a generous discount from our local Mainstay Provisions, just down the street w/ BHS alumni working there to host private events, serve up delicious coffee, treats, meals and catering! Cards should not be addressed to specific staff members, but rather to the BHS Educator/Team/Family… From our family to yours type thing for all educators to share/view together. Questions? - Want to learn more about plants, meet new people and earn service learning? Join Plant Club! We meet in NW203 after school on Monday every week.
- DECA is collecting business clothes (including suits, dress shoes, dresses, blazers, belts, dress socks, etc) for our Business Lending Closet and casual teen clothes for a Thrift store project. Please bring gently worn clothes to Ms. J in N101 or to Mr. Blazevic’s room, N108. Donation drive will go until break.
- Have thoughts? If you want to discuss anything on a deeper level, come to Philosophy & Ethics on Tuesday and Thursday in S106 after school!
- Are you interested in engineering, electrical, programing, or business? Join Robotics club in NW205 on Mondays or Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., No experience necessary! We compete and learn vital skills.
Athletics & Club Sports
- This weekend, Ballard Girls Flag Football won both their games at Memorial stadium. Through harsh winds and freezing rain, they defeated West Seattle 22 to 20, and Seattle Academy 20 to 14. Come support them at Memorial Stadium on January 11 at 11 a.m. as they take on Bishop Blanchet and Seattle Prep.
- Congratulations to the BHS Dance Team! In their first competition this past weekend, the team competed and qualified for Districts in 2 categories – both Dance and Hip-Hop. Great job Dance Team, and good luck on the rest of your season!
Class of 2025
- Seniors: Do you plan to apply for the Seattle Promise Scholarship? Jacob Shapiro is the Seattle Promise Outreach Specialist assigned to Ballard HS. He’s here every Tuesday in the counseling center and can help you with the application and/or with enrolling at one of the Seattle Colleges. He can even help you get started on your FAFSA or WASFA application. Go to the Ballard HS “Applying to College” webpage and scroll down to “Seattle Promise” to make an appointment with him. You can also drop in at lunch to get help. See your school counselor if you have questions!
- Seniors: Are you applying to the University of Victoria? Talk to your school counselor to learn more about the three $15,000 CAD scholarships that are available to Ballard HS seniors. If you qualify, it would lower the cost about 50% for you as an International student. Canadian citizens or dual citizens do not qualify for this scholarship.

Beaver Gear and Spirit Wear Breakdown
- Athletic Booster Club (ABC) has Beaver Gear and spirit wear (shorts, baseball tee, bleacher seats, plaid flannels, socks, scarf and hats) on the ABC website with Duffle Bags offered at different times of the school year. Refer to the Spirit Wear updates.
- “The DAM” BHS Student Store run by Advanced Marketing Students in the Activity Center (AC) has great spirit items (t-shirts, hoodies, sunglasses, etc.).
- Performing Arts (BPA) spirit merchandise can be found on the BPA Website and offered at different times of the school year.
- Athletics! Check with coaches about specific Athletics/Sports Merchandise
