Native American Heritage Month
We would like to take a moment to honor the Native American service members who have served in every major conflict in U.S. history, from World War I to the present day. Native Americans have a long and proud tradition of military service, despite facing unique challenges in their own communities. One of the most notable contributions of Native American veterans were the Diné (pronounced DEEN-EH) or Navajo (pronounced NAH-VA-HO) Code Talkers during World War II. These brave soldiers used their native language as a secret code to send vital military messages, which the enemy could never decipher. Their code was instrumental in securing key victories and protecting the lives of American troops. The Diné or Navajo Code Talkers, and others who followed their example, played a crucial role in the success of the U.S. military during the war, and their story is a testament to courage, ingenuity, and patriotism. Let us all show respect and gratitude for the sacrifices of those who have served and continue to serve.
