OpioidOverdose Response with Lynnet Mitchell, M.Ed. – Healthy Schools Coordinator, Seattle Public School will lead an informative session to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, so we have the essential skills to potentially save a life. Free Narcan and other resources available.

With the alarming increase in overdose-related deaths in King County, particularly from pills and powders containing fentanyl, this training session is being offered to bring awareness to this crisis. What is fentanyl? Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is stronger than other common opioids such as heroin and morphine. The issue is compounded by the fact that these drugs can be disguised to look like prescription pills, putting users at risk of consuming lethal doses without realizing it. You don’t want to miss this informative training.

SPS Prevention and Intervention – Lynnet Mitchell

Lynnet Mitchell, Healthy Schools Coordinator for Seattle Public Schools, Prevention and Intervention Department will bring bringing attention to the alarming increase in overdose-related deaths in King County, particularly from pills and powders containing fentanyl. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is stronger than other common opioids such as heroin and morphine. The issue is compounded by the fact that these drugs can be disguised to look like prescription pills, putting users at risk of consuming lethal doses without realizing it.

The opioid crisis has affected many of us, either through personal experiences with addiction or through the loss of loved ones to overdose. Lynnet Mitchell; llmitchell@seattleschools.org and the Seattle Public Schools’ Prevention and Intervention Department is collaborating with the Ballard HS PTSA to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of Naloxone (Narcan), a potentially life-saving drug. We have secured funding to help cover the cost of refreshments or other attendance incentives, and we hope to provide Narcan to participants as well.
