Black History Month
- Happy Day One of Black History Month and Black Lives Matter at School Week. This month we celebrate 100 years of Black History Month. In 1926, historian Carter G. Woodson launched Black (Negro) History Week. The Goal was simple: Teach Black history accurately and consistently. In 1976, Black History Week became Black History Month. February 2026 marks 100 years of nationwide Black history commemoration. Black History month is still here because the record still needs correcting.
- Please join us this Thursday at 7:30 a.m. to celebrate our 2nd quarter Scholars of the Quarter. It is an AMAZING event that brings us together as a community.
- Beaver Readers this Wed, Feb. 4 is World Read Aloud Day!
- What a fantastic time to read a poem, a picture book, your favorite short story, or something to your friends and classmates to get them to fall in love with the books you love! Talk to your teachers; they also plan to read!

- Join Ballard choir students this Wed as Ms. Ingerson teaches some of her favorite justice and protest songs from the Justice Choir Songbook! Come to the black box to learn some noteworthy songs to inspire hope and resilience in one’s community. No singing experience is required! Come to sing or to listen. All students and staff are welcome.
- Get your tickets soon for the Spring Musical: Mamma Mia! Tickets are available through the BHS website and will go fast for this fun show! Performances begin on March 19. (Singalong Night is March 20!)
- Ballard Performing Arts is so proud of ALL the students who performed at the Elliott Bay Solo and Ensemble Festival at Roosevelt HS this weekend. Winners will be representing our region at the State Solo and Ensemble Competition held at Central Washington University in Ellensburg on April 24 and 25.
- If you missed last week’s yearbook preorder deadline, don’t worry – there will be one more round of yearbook preorders during April.
- Jan. – April: the Ballard High School Teen Health Center, there will unfortunately be a temporary interruption of clinic services until April 20, 2026. Read more on the email sent from Principal Hunt.
Seniors
- SPREE: Seniors – if you would like to participate in this year’s Senior SPREE event, tickets are now on sale! Tickets will be on sale until capacity for the venues is reached.
- Are you a high school student passionate about service and interested in a paid summer internship at a nonprofit organization? Teens in Public Service (TIPS) places high school interns at a variety of nonprofits – museums, food banks, nature preserves, and more. Apply today for the TIPS Summer 2026 program at teensinpublicservice.org. The application is due March 3.
- Are you considering applying to the University of Victoria as an international student? See your school counselor by Fri, Feb. 13 to be considered for a scholarship valued up to $20,000 CAD. We can nominate three students for this extraordinary scholarship. One of them could be YOU!
- Cap & Gown Orders Due (and other graduation gear, like tassels and stoles)! Physical order packets are available in the main office and the order link is on the BHS website. The counseling center has caps and gowns available to loan out, but does not have tassels or stoles.
- The Class of 2026 graduation dates have been published! Ballard HS graduation will be on June 15, 2026, at 5 p.m. at McCaw Hall.
ASB Clubs
- DECA State Testing is this Wed, Feb. 4 – 6. This is a change from recent messaging. Please turn in State Permission Slips ASAP. If you qualified for STATE and cannot attend on your competition day you must let Ms. Jereczek know today ASAP. If you were hoping for a Principles or Financial Literacy Spot you must come to Ms. J to confirm ASAP. If you have a 20 Slide Pitch DECK from Area that qualified, it needs to be resubmitted by next week starting on the 10th. We also need chaperones for both days, but the chaperone does not need to be at both days.

Athletics & Club Sports
- Ballard High School Cheerleading is leaving for UCA Nationals in Orlando, FL on Wednesday. They’ll be having a showcase and send off on Monday, Feb, 2 at 6:45 p.m. in the Commons. This team has won 4 national titles in the last two years, please come and support if you can!
- This Friday our gymnastics team will compete in the Metro League Championship at Roosevelt HS! Come cheer on our gymnasts at 6:30 p.m.!

- Athletic Booster Club (ABC) has Beaver Gear and spirit wear (shorts, baseball tee, bleacher seats, plaid flannels, socks, scarf and hats) on the ABC website with Duffle Bags offered at different times of the school year.
- “The DAM” BHS Student Store run by Advanced Marketing Students in the Activity Center (AC) has great spirit items (t-shirts, hoodies, sunglasses, etc.).
- Performing Arts (BPA) spirit merchandise can be found on the BPA Website and offered at different times of the school year.
- Athletics! Check with coaches about specific Athletics/Sports Merchandise
