Tim Nygard Ballard “Legacy” Scholarship

Tim Nygard Crop

The Tim Nygard Ballard “Legacy” Scholarship is an annual $2,000 award which will be made to a graduating senior with Ballard HS “legacy roots” who is known for modeling character, compassion, and friendship towards fellow students. The award is to be used for tuition to pursue further academic or trade education.

Student Requirements: Enrolled as a senior at Ballard High School, Have a legacy parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle who is a Ballard HS alum, Demonstrate school and community spirit through participation in athletics, clubs, or leadership at Ballard HS and in the Ballard community.

Tim Nygard Ballard Legacy Background: The Ballard HS Foundation is offering a scholarship to honor the memory of Ballard HS alum Tim Nygard, who passed away after a three-year battle with colon cancer in March, 2023. Tim graduated from Ballard HS in 2001 and is the son, brother, and nephew of BHS graduates from the classes of ‘64, ‘68, ‘69, ‘96 and ’98. He radiated pride, passion, and loyalty to his hometown of Seattle, but especially to BHS, and the Ballard community which has been home to the Nygard family since 1950. He was in the second graduating class from the new building, played basketball, tennis, and golf for BHS, and was always involved in the activities of the school. Tim was funny, genuine, and humble, which allowed him to make lasting friendships, and leave an impactful legacy on so many. He was a friend to all, confirmed by his classmates who voted him the person they would most like to be stranded on a desert island with. Tim’s life and career were driven by his desire to help and serve others and he was known for his character and compassion. But most of all, he loved his family intensely.
