Ballard HS Running Start Checklist
Below are the steps for students who wish to apply to Running Start for the 2026-2027 school year. Please print out this webpage (or download PDF) and complete these steps by the end of May to ensure priority registration for college classes. Check the college Running Start page for specific dates and deadlines. Check off each item and fill in relevant details. Bring this checklist, the Running Start Agreement form, and your completed EVF with you when you meet with your BHS school counselor to finalize your Running Start plan.
- Attend a BHS Running Start Information Session.
- Information sessions will be held every Wednesday in March at lunch in the Library Book Room. I attended the information session on:
- Decide which two-year college you want to attend.
- You may choose any community or technical college in Washington State you but must be able to transport yourself there. I plan to do Running Start at:
- Apply online to the college you selected.
- Each college will outline their procedure for registering as a Running Start student on their website. Follow their specific step-by-step instructions.
- Determine your placement for classes.
- You must take the English placement test (or use alternate method for placement) to participate in Running Start. You only need to take the Math placement test if you plan to take math (or a science with math in it) at Running Start. Check your college Running Start website for more details.
- Read and sign the BHS Running Start Agreement Form.
- Decide if you will do Running Start full-time or part-time (hybrid).
- I plan to do: FULL TIME / PART TIME (circle one)
- Create a proposed schedule of your classes for the fall.
- Look at your college website for their Fall 2026 class schedule. Consider timing so that your BHS and Running Start classes won’t overlap.
- I plan to take (fill in the) classes at Running Start and (fill in the) classes at BHS.
- I would like to take my Ballard classes in AM/PM (circle one)
- Fill out your Enrollment Verification Form (EVF) with the following. Please visit your College Running Start website for the EVF.
- Your information in the “student” section at the top
- Check yes or no in the free/reduced lunch section and sign/date
- List the course names/numbers of the Running Start classes you plan to take for Fall Quarter (e.g., ENG101, HIST146)
- Both you and your parent/guardian sign at the bottom.
- Once you have completed ALL the above steps, make an appointment with your high school counselor to finalize your plan.
- Turn in this Checklist, the Running Start Agreement Form, and your Completed EVF. Once your schedule is finalized, your counselor will sign your EVF and give it back to you.
After you meet with your high school counselor, you are not done. Common next steps include (be sure to follow your college’s step by step instructions):
- Submit all completed Running Start documents, including the Enrollment Verification Form, via e-mail to the college (following their procedure).
- Complete a new student orientation, if applicable. You will register for your college classes with the help of the Running Start Advisor at your college, likely via a virtual group registration session.
- Pay class fees.
- Begin classes. Be sure to reach out to your Running Start Advisor if you have any questions about the college’s process or classes.
