What You Need to Know…

Ballard HS Reminders

May 2022 | Our community is experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases. Our rate of cases puts King County into the Medium COVID-19 Community Level as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Learn more on the district COVID Response page.

SPS COVID Exposure Notification Process Update: SPS sent an email to families letting them know per the Department of Health, only families of students with medically fragile or complex health conditions would be notified of potential COVID-19 exposure. Read more on the SPS News page.

Students who are not participating in teacher meetings, or after school-affiliated sports and clubs are asked to leave campus grounds after school. Contact the Main Office at 206-252-1000 for assistance. Email Administrative Secretary Cindy Peterson at crpeterson@seattleschools.org or for Sports email Athletic Secretary Bethany Nielcen at blnielcen@seattleschools.org.

SPS Health and Safety Resources

  • Keep your student home if they have any COVID-19 symptoms and report to our school any confirmed cases. Review the DOH symptoms flow chart for guidance.

SPS Encourages Families to Make Safe Travel Plans

Thank you for your continued efforts to keep our students and school communities healthy and safe. As we approach school breaks , it is a good time to remind everyone about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) travel guidance.

Visitors and Volunteers in Buildings

One-time/one-day visitors and one-time volunteers are allowed in buildings during the school day with the following requirements.

  • Visitors must sign in at the Main Office and show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours. Home tests will be accepted. Same day rapid antigen tests are highly recommended.
    • Note that proof of vaccination or negative COVID test is not required outside of the school day.
  • Visitors and staff in meetings together must follow all SPS Health and safety protocols.
  • Adults maintain 6-feet physical distance from others.
  • Meetings over Teams are still an option, and in some cases more convenient for families and staff.
  • Note that essential volunteers are already allowed at the discretion of the school leader.

District Mask Update

While masking is now optional, masks must be worn in the BHS Nurse Office and the Ballard Teen Health Center. The district welcomes and encourages staff and students to continue mask wearing through the end of the year if that is their preference

Thank You for Helping Keep School Communities Safe

Thank you for all you are doing to keep our students in school and to keep our schools safe.

Keep your student home if they have any COVID-19 symptoms and report to your school any confirmed cases. Review the DOH symptoms flow chart for guidance on when your child should stay home from school and get tested for COVID-19.  As a community, SPS and our students, families, and staff continue to follow public health guidance to minimize the spread of COVID-19, while centering a high quality, in-person learning experience.
