    Planning for the 2020-21 School Year

    Fall 2020 Planning Update August 7: Science and data continue to ground our response to COVID-19. Superintendent Juneau is recommending to the School Board that Seattle Public Schools start the 2020-21 school year remotely.

    While Superintendent Juneau, along with Seattle Education Association and the Principals Association of Seattle Schools, already recommended reopening remotely for this fall, Governor Inslee confirmed on Wednesday, August 5 that the transmission rates in King County are too high to return to school in a districtwide hybrid model.     Engagement Teams: Each engagement team will present a final recommendation to the Leadership Committee, which includes the Superintendent, School Board representation, Seattle Education Association, and Seattle Council PTSA on June 18. The final recommended contingency scenario will be shared with staff and families the following day. The School Board may need to adjust policies to implement the final recommendation.     Governor Inslee, along with OSPI and the Department of Health, provided guidelines to help school districts make the decision of when and how to reopen schools for in-person instruction.
