    Special Education Services Update

SPS LogoDear Families of Students Receiving Special Education Services,

As Seattle Public Schools works to support our families and community during this uncertain and challenging time, we want to provide you with some updates on the work being done to address the needs of all our learners.

We know our families are concerned and have many questions. We have prepared a Special Education FAQ that is now live on our website. We will continue to update this page as information becomes available. We are closely monitoring guidance from both the state and federal bodies that govern special education. As guidance changes in the upcoming weeks, we will keep you informed.

We are committed to providing weekly communication to our families via Constant Contact, the platform we have traditionally used to send out our monthly newsletters. We will be sending home language translations of the weekly communications to multilingual families the following Tuesday, directly via School Messenger. Families needing supports in other languages can visit the Special Education department contact page for more information.

These moments ask us to respond as nimbly as possible, while maintaining a strong commitment to serving our students furthest from educational justice. Though many circumstances have changed, those values have not.

If you have questions for our department, you can reach us at

Take care of yourself, your family, and your community.
